I realize it’s been a while since there’s been a post– so sorry! I’ve been backed up on looks and more importantly, planning for my birthday trip to Cali! I have been looking forward to this trip for a while; when I moved back to D.C. from San Diego I made a promise to visit California more often and it never happened. So needless to say I was looking forward to spending time with friends and seeing my moms new house!
I stayed with my mom in her new house for a couple of days and it was great to get some quality time with her. Yes, I just saw her when we were on the cruise, but just to have every day time with my mom, shopping and laughing and hanging out. I got to pick out my own birthday presents and one of the things I got were the most adorable DKNY mules! After a couple of days with mom I headed to San Francisco to spend time with friends. I stayed at the Kimpton Buchanan in Japantown. It’s not my favorite Kimpton property but I always stay at Kimpton whenever I can. I got to see a lot of my favorite people, visit my favorite nail salon in Hayes Valley, Lux, to get pedis with girlfriends and had some amazing Italian food.
I had so much fun in the Bay Area but after a few days it was time to head to Southern Cali! I was soooo excited to see my SoCal family, it has been too long! One of my good friends surprised me with a beautiful birthday cake and rosé– it was so, so sweet.
Friday I headed down to Palm Springs! My boo Ivory was joining along with another friend of hers who I’ve come to know, and I was pretty excited for a fun weekend mild mannered shenanigans! We stayed at the Saguaro Palm Springs which has been featured in a number of magazines for its amazing decor. As cute as it was, I wouldn’t stay there again. It was such an adorable hotel, the food was good and it was in an ideal location. But the beds were like rocks and there were some doors that were legit broken. But the location made for some great photos!
I was looking forward to soaking up as much sunshine as possible! I finally had a chance to wear two bathing suits I’ve wanted to wear for a long time; this beautiful two piece from Lane Bryant I had my eye on FOREVER, and this ultra sexy one piece from the Gabi Fresh for Swimsuits for All collection. The weather couldn’t have been more perfect for a weekend by the pool, and chilling with my girlfriends all day laughing and sipping on margaritas was just what I needed!
Later Saturday night we went out for dinner and dancing. We had a lovely dinner at a place in downtown Palm Springs called Lulu’s California Bistro. It’s was eclectic, beautifully decorated, and the food was delicious. Afterwards we headed to a gay bar a couple of blocks away for some dancing. I picked up this Monif C romper during a summer sale and I couldn’t wait to wear it. I had my eye on it for a while but I wasn’t sure how it would look. I decided to take a chance and I am SO glad I did, it’s so freaking cute!
Sunday night we went to dinner at a restaurant called Eight 4 Nine in downtown Silver Spring. I made reservations at this restaurant because the menu looked amazing. But that’s nothing compared to the decor. It was SUCH a beautiful restaurant! We had such a lovely evening and toasted to friendship and success and it was perfect. I purchased this Zelie for She dress for my birthday dinner because as far as I’m concerned you’re never too old to look and feel like a princess! Take note: this dress is super sheer! I’m a fan of sheer pieces but this is virtually see-through! But I found a perfect dress to wear under it so it worked out perfectly.
On my birthday we headed back to San Diego where I checked into Mudville Flats, an adorable inn in East Village, my old neighborhood in San Diego. If you caught my Instastories then you saw how gorgeous my room was. The inn-keepers were so sweet and gave me a bottle of wine for my birthday (thanks Mike and Linda!). I read on my balcony before heading to the spa for a facial at Alleviating Whispering Waters Spa. It’s been a while since I had a facial, and Alleviating Waters was the first place I treated myself to a facial when I moved to San Diego so it seemed fitting! Afterwards I met up with friends for a reflexology treatment at Green Bamboo in North Park and then dinner with some more friends at one of my favorite haunts, Neighborhood. After a week of going nonstop it was nice to have a chill evening.
And just like that, my week in Cali was over. I’m so appreciative to everyone who made my week so special. It was really hard to leave, as I expected it to be, I miss Cali so much! But I hope to keep true to my initial promise to be back more often, fingers crossed I can make that happen!
